I am not afraid to use color, but how can I appropriately use bold/bright hues without overwhelming people?
Start small with bold colours trying one accent wall or even a few accessories such accent pillows, a lamp shade, a throw or artwork that has the bold colour in it. If you love the colour you will embrace wanting more of how it makes you feel. It is the emotional connection to the colour that is vital.
The Benjamin Moore Chalkboard Paint (308) is a latex paint, tintable to any colour, that turns virtually any interior surface into a chalkboard. It is easy to apply, dries in a matter of hours to a durable eggshell finish, is easy to clean and fully washable. It also is formulated to minimize any lingering odours, making it ideal for a child's playroom, bedroom or even the kitchen as a message centre for shopping lists and household reminders. Jackie Morra has decided to use chalkboard paint in her Urban Living home as the backsplash for the kitchen. I love the fact that so many people and companies within the decor and building industry have become more eco-conscious, using recycled, re-purposed materials, reducing their carbon footprint and reducing harmful processing practices in manufacturing. Describing this rapid and necessary change as a "trend" within the industry is a misnomer however. Calling the shift in environmental awareness a trend would seem to indicate that it is public opinion that is leading the way and perhaps companies are doing this because it is the latest style and they can ultimately increase sales by marketing themselves as environment friendly.
In reality, the fact that the world has become more in tune with the concept of being "green" is out of necessity. It has become more and more apparent that our natural resources are not infinite and that acceleration of extreme climate change is ever present. That means we, as a global community, are forced to make these changes whether "trendy" or otherwise out of inevitability rather than choice. I'm glad that thinking green is here to stay and that many individuals and industries are doing their part to champion the cause as it requires a collective effort for everyone to do their part.
